About the project
Nikšić has embarked on an exciting journey as a candidate for the European Capital of Culture 2030, with a vision to become a recognized hub of creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange. With its rich history, diverse traditions, and unique energy, Nikšić aspires to open new horizons through this project, bring culture closer to all citizens, and become a meeting point for artists and creators from across Europe and the world. Located at a crossroads between the Adriatic Sea and the Dinaric Alps, Nikšić sits in the heart of Montenegro, surrounded by mountains, wide plateaus, and abundant natural beauty. The city lies on a key transport route connecting the coast with the interior, as well as Montenegro with neighboring countries—making it a strategic hub for trade, tourism, and culture.
Known as the second-largest city in Montenegro, Nikšić is historically and geographically rooted in the intersection of Mediterranean climate, Dinaric landscapes, and Balkan traditions.
